Arm’s Length means the Funds’ assets must be bought and sold at market value and the income on the Funds’ assets should show a true market rate of return.

You can’t

  • Loan money to a friend without interest
  • Lease SMSF property for less than the market rate of rent
  • Invest in a related unit trust that doesn’t pay distributions to Fund.
  • Sell a property to a related party at less than market value.

If you don’t deal at arm’s length could be serious consequences for the Fund and you personally.
